Admin Assistant/Designer

Part-time, Remote
(locals to the Twin Cities area preferred)

Hi! I’m Olly and I run a small art & ecommerce biz based out of Minneapolis, MN called Curlworks. We’re queer & trans-run and value kindness, authenticity, and supporting our community. We’ve grown quite a bit in the last few years and I’m now looking for someone to help me with some of the design, admin, and regular customer service tasks that need doing fairly frequently. This would be a 3-month contract position, with opportunities for extension based on performance/need. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, keep reading!

Responsibilities:
1. Monitor email inbox and respond to/reroute customer service inquiries.
2. Input wholesale orders & tracking numbers into our shipping system (we use Faire & Ecwid)
3. Make adjustments to orders and process refunds, returns, or exchanges if needed.
4. Create graphics and advertisements.
5. (If local) assist with in-person at art fairs & conventions (for additional compensation!)

Responsibilities may change as we navigate this new territory, but we will always discuss and negotiate any changes before they happen. There may be opportunities for product design in the future!

Time Commitment: We might play this one a little fast and loose as we figure out what the work-load looks like, but plan for about an hour a day Monday - Friday. We can adjust compensation accordingly!

Compensation: $500/mo or 5% of gross monthly shop sales (avg. for 2024 would be about $1000/mo), whichever is higher. This is negotiable! This is a fairly part-time as-needed position, but I aim to compensate fairly– we can re-evaluate as things progress and we see what the work-load looks like!

Required Skills:

These fundamental skills are required, but I will train you to use all of my wacky procedures and systems.

  • A friendly, patient, and helpful demeanor :)

  • Great writing skills

  • Willingness to ask for help

  • Proficiency with computer work

  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator or an equivalent

  • Familiarity with Procreate

  • Drawing & design experience

Skills that help:

  • Customer service experience

  • Familiarity with e-commerce (we use Ecwid & Etsy)

Estimated start date is flexible– sometime around Feb/March 2025.

Please email your cover letter, resume & portfolio to olly@curlworks.net. I’ll be going through apps at the end of January. Thanks!

P.S. Students: we might be able to roll this into an internship situation, mention that & your school’s requirements in your application and we can talk!
